March/April can't come fast enough. Anybody else feel that way or have a car they're not driving in the winter?

I drive my super-rare car year-round. It is only good if it's driven.

Mine has been out with a tire issue the last couple weeks, but I'm finally getting her back today. Going on a drive with friends tomorrow!

Yup, my 135is has been in storage since 11/28. Only time I've "driven" it since then was last night when I backed it up a few feet to make room in the storage unit for some tires .

I store my technically super-rare car (but really just a super-rare version of a more common car) in the winter because I have a Jeep I drive in the winter, and the fun car just has summer tires on it.

I sold my winter beater last month of a healthy profit and haven't had time to pick up a new one. I've been dailying the GTO (in Denver) for the past 2 weeks.

Nah, it's still good. Almost better once spring hits. My 335xi is just a better winter daily driver.

Although I agree with you in principle that I'd never be one of those dudes who buys a rare/old car and never drives for fear of it losing value. That's just silly to me.

this old queen gets the winter months off. mostly because of the salt on our northeast roads hastening the rusting process. i do take her our every couple of weeks for a spin when its dry.

love the throwing stars by the way.

My FR-S is almost more fun to drive in the winter than it is in the spring. The main reason I want it to be spring is because all the -10 degree days are bullshit! haha

Thanks! XJS? 6 or 12 cylinder? Yeah, I'm the same way. No need to expose a 26 year old car to salt, snow, moisture, crappy winter roads when I can just drive my 335xi.

Well, it's my only car so ha.

I would DD a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 if I could. It's a sweet ass car. I'm one of these guys that aren't afraid to drive classic, valuable, uncommon cars year-round. When it ultimately comes down to it, it is just a car.

12 of course. :) if youre going to do it, you might as well do it. mine's a 91, so 24 years old. the galvanization process hadn't quite been perfected in coventry at that time. also, the car's body work has lots of little nooks and crannies that don't drain properly. i did drive it in the snow up in the northwest last winter, but that was more out of necessity. and they don't use salt up there.

I have a friend named Perry who also has an E34 M5. He has the vented wheel covers though. Great, classic looking car. I wish the 1-2 shift wasn't 3 miles long.

You and me both. It's exacerbated by the short throw shifter that my car came with. I find that if you shift quickly and firmly, it's smoother than trying to shift slowly. This car definitely requires more precision and careful gear selection than my 335.

His car came with a short shift kit as well. You think that makes it worse?

Yeah, just makes it seem stiffer, at least on my car. In general I'm not a huge fan of most short shift kits. I feel like the shorter throw is offset by the reduced leverage. Although, I started to warm up to it after driving it for a while.

Ah, beautiful M. Mine is my DD since no salt on the roads here in good ole GA. I am jealous of the color, I really wanted silver or blue but couldn't pass on mine considering its condition and the limited numbers of decent examples out there.

Also really want to get those throwing stars like yours but can't stand the idea of changing out the OEM turbines.

Interesting. But the short-throw shifter makes the actual distance the shifter moves shorter, right? Going from 1-2 is a huge leap in his setup. If he returned to stock, wouldn't the throw be even longer? I see what you are saying about how stiff it is, though. It's just crazy to imagine the shifter even longer than it currently is. It's also just an old car, and performance cars have come a long way since 91.
